February might be the shortest month of the year, but there is a lot being packed into just 28 days. Fortunately the short month is being packed with all the right conditions. With all the planets now on the same side of the sky, spread out in a band from Sagittarius to Taurus, there are no planetary oppositions. The exception is the North Node, which is in Cancer, opposing sign to Capricorn, where there is a lot of planetary activity.
However, apart from Venus, who will move fairly quickly through Capricorn this month, the forces there are slow, stable and the first real opposition, between the North Node and Pluto is not until early April. Even then, as the lunar nodes aren’t physical bodies and the lunar nodes themselves are always in opposition, this is not the same as planetary oppositions. Pluto and Mars are at a tense square aspect at the start of the month, but this will ease within days and is more likely to work to your advantage. Pluto and Mars are the planets of war and revolution, but they are also the best of friends, creating some friendly goading between the two.
With all the planets on the same side of the sky, it also means that we have a coming together of the short term focus of the Sun, Mercury and Venus, which move through the same areas of your chart at the same time every year and planets that are in the same position for years. As those areas where there is a long term focus will define the coming year, this month provides a clear sense of what to expect in 2019.
In essence, February is the month when 2019 separates itself from 2018.
While Jupiter left Scorpio in November, until Venus and Ceres left there was still planetary activity here and things were still playing out. It wasn’t until Ceres left on 26th January, that what was one of the most dominant areas of your chart in 2018, finally ran its course. With Jupiter in Sagittarius until 3rd December and Ceres here until late November, once Venus leaves on 4th February, things will be locked into place and the real journey can begin. Where Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion is located, determines where there is the most growth in any given year and this year, this will be in the Sagittarius ruled area of your chart.
With Venus here until 4th February, this makes it important to trust your heart. For even if you don’t know what Jupiter has in store for you this year, or the opportunities he has come to create, your heart does. As she leaves Sagittarius, Venus will return to Capricorn where she will join forces with Saturn, Pluto and the South Node. While Jupiter represents the greatest potential for growth in any year, Saturn defines where you will find your strength and there will be a need for structure. With Pluto, planet of change and revolution here, this is also where there can be change.
With Jupiter returning to Capricorn in December, by the end of the year the two will merge into one, making this something you will be working towards all year. To have Venus start the month in Sagittarius and then spend the rest of the month in Capricorn, is giving your heart access to two of the most important areas of your chart in 2019.
A reminder that the Monthly Horoscopes and Monthly Horoscope Reports will give you all the information on what areas of your chart are ruled by Sagittarius and Capricorn, as well as all the other areas of your chart that are active this month.
In the meantime, the Sun and Mercury begin the month in Aquarius, where the planetary activity here this month is extraordinary because it is so ordinary. The South Node only left Aquarius in November and Mars wrapped up a nearly six month visit just a week later. This put an extraordinary amount of focus here last year and with the North Node in opposition from May 2017 to November 2018, some pressure as well. Especially during the eclipses this created. With the lunar nodes left in Leo and Aquarius in November, a total lunar eclipse in the Sun’s first full day in Aquarius saw the two clash one last time, last month.
There will be no barriers or roadblocks for Mercury until he leaves Aquarius on 10th February, or the Sun until he leaves on 19th February. This gives the New Moon here on 5th February a chance to regroup and to draw a new line in the sand, when it comes to the Aquarius ruled area of your chart. This is also the only area of your chart that the Sun and Mercury will move through in the early months of 2019 and there is no major or ongoing planetary activity. But again, it is the very ordinariness of this that makes this extraordinary.
It is when the Sun and Mercury return to Pisces that they become part of the bigger picture, while still returning to take care of the ordinary housekeeping that takes place here at this time every year. Mercury returns on 10th February just as Chiron, the planet of healing is about to move into his final week here for another 44 years. Chiron left for five months last year, but returned in order to tie up loose ends. This is a chance for the planets of communication and healing to work together in the final days, before Chiron leaves on 18th February. This is just a day before the Sun returns on 18th February, with the solar spotlight revealing that the planet that had been since 2010, is gone.
This will allow the Sun and Mercury to play witness to what is a major change in dynamics in the Pisces ruled area of your chart. Even though Neptune, planet of dreams and fantasies returned in 2012 and with Chiron, planet of healing here for two years by then, he had his territory firmly marked. You have been working towards your dreams for nearly five years, but you had to juggle this with the healing process. With Chiron gone and not coming back for another 44 years, this is a new era for dreamy Neptune. Not due to leave until 2026, when it comes to the Pisces ruled area of your chart, it is now all about chasing the dream.
This has big implications in terms of the North Node’s position in Cancer until May 2020. Neptune is all about chasing your dreams and the North Node is all about the future, destiny and the pursuit of what’s possible. Cancer and Pisces are Water signs and on the back of all that Jupiter has invested in fellow Water sign Scorpio, this creates the potential for real growth and the pursuit of your dreams in both the Cancer and Pisces ruled areas of your chart. Neptune and the North Node will be moving into a tight alignment around the time of a total solar eclipse in Cancer in early July.
So, while the Sun and Mercury return for the very ordinary annual update they undertake in Pisces each year, this gives you access to something exciting that is taking place here.
Again, your Monthly Horoscopes and Monthly Horoscope Reports will give you all the information on what areas of your chart are being impacted, where, how and when and your Monthly Reports will get right down to the details. However, as an example if you are a Libran, Pisces is the ruler of your work sector and Cancer of your career sector, while they both carry with them the potential invested in Scorpio last year, ruler of your income sector. For Capricorns, Cancer is the ruler of your relationship sector and Pisces of your communication sector. With the lunar nodes policing a balance between your personal and relationship needs in 2019, having the support of the North Node in your communication sector is a game changer.
This month’s Full Moon will fall in Virgo, opposing sign to Pisces, on 20th February. This is the Sun’s first full day in Pisces and with the Moon returning just an hour before this Full Moon, this might catch you off guard. Yet that is the best kind of Full Moon, leaving you no time to stick your head in the game before real messages are delivered. The Moon will then stay on for another two days afterwards to help you decode and process the wakeup calls on both sides.
Meanwhile there are two planets that in their own way, set the scene for some extraordinary developments over the coming months. Those two planets are Mars and Juno. Juno is an unlikely planet to have this kind of influence, for as an asteroid this is usually too subtle to have anything more than a personal impact.
Mars begins the month in Aries, just as Uranus is spending his last full month here before leaving on 6th March, and not to return for another eight decades. Juno, queen of commitment will begin the month in Taurus but will leave on 11th February, just three days before Mars returns. Both, in their own way, are helping to prepare for Uranus’ return to Taurus next month and the major implications this will have. Juno will then return to Gemini, staying there until this year’s planetary activity begins, later next month. More importantly, this will put Juno on the other side of the sky to Jupiter, helping to create a bit of balance.
In one way or another, as the month progresses the area of your chart that will define the makeup of 2019 will become populated and will fall into place, giving you a pretty good sense by the end of the month of what to expect this year. This will dismiss the fear that old challenges might return, while giving you the confidence that this is destined to be an exciting year.
