May 2020

I am a visual thinker and that is why I use a lot of analogies in my writing. I will be thinking about how best to explain the situation I am seeing but instead of coming up with words I come up with a picture and that is why I am starting this Overview a little differently.

Imagine runners lined up on a track, ready to run a sprint. I am thinking Usain Bolt, the fastest sprinter in the world, lined up and hyper focused. The starter’s gun goes off and they bolt out of the starting blocks but then an alarm goes off – it is a false start and the runners, one by one, realising this at different lengths down the track stop, turn around and no doubt say a few choice words. This isn’t just a false start. A lot of mental preparation had to go into getting off to the best possible start and that has all been destroyed. There would not be many happy chappies in that line up.

This is how I see 2020 and especially this month. 2020 began with incredible fanfare. We had a once in a lifetime alignment of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion had just returned there in December and was on track to not only exploit what this generated but would go on to align with Pluto three times this year, bringing the planet of change and revolution together with the planet of luck and expansion. Astrologers have been excited about 2020 since forever. We were psyched and pumped and even if you knew nothing about the astrological conditions, this year felt different. This was going to be our year.

The starter’s gun did go off, we did throw ourselves into 2020 and we were racing down that track – until a global pandemic declared this a false start and asked us all to return to the starting line.

The planets were already slowing down by early last month but the actual turnarounds began late last month when Pluto turned retrograde in Capricorn and at one point this month, in the space of just four days three more planets will turn retrograde, making a U turn that will take them back to close to their starting position. It begins with Saturn’s retrograde turn on 11th May and having left Capricorn in March and now in Aquarius, this will see him make a U turn that will be him back into Capricorn in early July. This will be followed two days later by Venus’ retrograde turn in Gemini and by Jupiter’s retrograde turn in Capricorn on 15th May.

It is not as simple as a planet making a U turn and heading back the way they came, in order to make that U turn a planet has to come to a complete stop. This means that we begin the month with Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter, the three planets that got this year off to such a fast and thrilling start, all at a standstill and all turning around, ready to head back to the starting line again. Venus was not in Gemini at the start of the year but having returned early last month, she has decided that this is where she will stay until August.

With Saturn and Jupiter both remaining in retrograde motion until September, by which point Uranus, Neptune and even Mars will be in retrograde motion and Pluto until October, the most powerful planets in the solar system are slowing down and turning back.

This month this is happening in Aquarius, Capricorn and Gemini and if you look on the other side of the sky and to their opposing signs Leo, Cancer and Sagittarius you will find no planetary activity, which means there will be no challenges and that where we are being called on to pull back this will be a positive experience.

If the year that you signed up to is not what was advertised on the packet and a global pandemic has changed your expectations or even your reality, the solar system is united in an opportunity to push the ‘reset’ button.

Meanwhile, the Sun, Mercury and Mars are, for now anyway, continuing to move forward at pace. Mercury, who spent nearly two months hovering between Pisces and Aquarius, will spend time in three different signs this month. Mercury will start the month in Taurus, before spending just 15 days in Gemini, from 12th May to 29th May, before ending the month in Cancer. However, once in Cancer Mercury will also turn retrograde, keeping him here until August. The Sun, as is always the case at this time of year, will spend the first three weeks of May in Taurus, before returning to Gemini.

Mars is also on the move this month, leaving Aquarius on 13th May and returning to Pisces, where the dwarf planet Ceres is spending her first full month here in four years.

The other big news is a shift in the lunar nodes, with the South Node leaving Capricorn and returning to Sagittarius on 5th May and the North Node leaving Cancer and returning to Gemini on the same day. As eclipses are linked to the lunar nodes, this changes where the eclipses will fall over the next two years. While there will be one more solar eclipse in Cancer next month and no eclipse in Gemini until November, there will be a lunar eclipse in Sagittarius early next month.

This month is definitely a lot quieter, the planets are definitely putting on the brakes and this year will feel like it got off to a false start, but the general theme this month is of acceptance and a chance to push the ‘reset’ button.

This is just a brief overview of the conditions this month, with the following links providing more information in what this means for you. The Monthly Horoscopes are now available and I will continue to go into this in the Daily and Weekly Horoscopes but you can also get more detailed information through the Monthly Horoscope Reports.

This Overview is simply my chance to tell you what the planets are doing each month and not how this will impact you personally, which I will do through the Horoscopes. However, the Monthly Horoscope Reports will provide a lot more information and detail into exactly where, when and how this will impact you.

All the very best for the coming month and these uncertain but also extraordinary times.
